There are a few things to know and consider before leaving to volunteer as a veterinary nurse or assistant.
Let’s see them together:

1. Requirements:

Requirement number one: love animals. But also love to travel, have an open mind.
Above all, don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty.

2. Description of the volunteer work:

Volunteer as a veterinary staff or as a helper?

Do your research and decide immediately what kind of experience you want to have.

There are organizations that volunteer with animals that are open to all people willing to help animals in need and willing to do different types of work.

You can do photography, admin, management.. You can do whatever you want. You just have to decide where you want to help.

Others, however, volunteer for veterinarians or veterinary nurses. So they also require qualification. This brings us to point 3.

3. Know your duties.

Whether it’s a specialized experience (eg role as a vet nurse or vet surgeon) or not, make sure you know what the requirements are but also what your duties will be.

You don’t want to know everything, but you don’t want to find yourself speechless either.

4. Budget:

Flight, visa and other transport are often not included. In addition, you must also think about health insurance.
Many organizations offer accommodation and meals. We remember that it is a volunteer, but it is still a job and a minimum of reward is needed.

Your contribution counts whether or not you hold a position as a nurse or veterinarian.

Also, be aware that many organizations ask for an (annual) membership fee to be able to join the association.
